WHITELINE™ Ceiling Tiles from illbruck Generate a Productive Learning Environment in Technical Institute's Welding Shop

Welding is noisy business. Imagine 30 welding students at a time, joining metals with noisy electrical equipment and hammers. Add to that racket the noise from a ventilation system powerful enough to handle the exhaust from 30 individual welding systems. This is the situation in which Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, S.D., found itself after constructing a new welding lab on its 30-acre campus last fall.

Technical Institute's Welding Shop

" Our lab was concrete construction and hadn't included any sound-effect specifications. We found that the noise generated in the space was too intense and sharp. It was just unacceptable," says Larry Wilson, assistant director of Lake Area Technical Institute, one of the fastest growing technical colleges in the region. "Since we've had WHITELINE Ceiling Tiles installed, the sounds are much duller and the environment in the welding shop has become much more livable for instructors and students alike."

WHITELINE Ceiling Tiles, manufactured by illbruck Architectural Products, are unique, smooth-textured white ceiling tiles appropriate for most any large-scale application. While the tiles are sleek, with less volume and weight than the standard tile, they provide excellent acoustical control.

John Meigs of Simpson Supply in Omaha, Neb., a manufacturer representative of illbruck products, recommended Lake Area Technical Institute install WHITELINE tiles. "We needed a product that could provide maximum noise absorption but that could be installed next to an existing roof structure. Because WHITELINE is so streamlined, we were able to get the greatest amount of sound absorption in the space, with the least amount of interference with existing systems such as sprinkler and ventilation," says Meigs. "Other choices were more expensive and not as sound absorbent. WHITELINE was a cost-efficient, effective, attractive choice.

"An additional benefit WHITELINE provided is increased light reflexivity in the welding shop. The tile is white, instead of the traditional gray look of fissured tile, so it makes the room appear brighter," says Meigs.

WHITELINE tiles are made from illbruck's innovative willtec® foam, a lightweight, open-cell melamine foam guaranteed not to sag. They can be easily installed into any conventional ceiling suspension grid. The tiles are available in a variety of dimensions, from 24 inches by 24 inches to 48 by 96 inches.

illbruck manufactures a broad range of attractive acoustical ceiling tiles, wall panels, baffles, and other noise control products for commercial and industrial applications, including: SQUARELINE® Metal Ceiling Tiles, HARMONI™ and WHITELINE™ Ceiling Tiles, CONTOUR® Wall and Ceiling Tiles, FABRITEC™ Wall Panels, SONEX® Wall Panels and Baffles, and PROSPEC® Barriers and Composites.
