SONEXvalueline™ Panels Put an End to Echo Problem at Indoor Pool

Like most swimming pools these days, the indoor pool at Valley Shore's YMCA in Westbrook Connecticut, served a variety of purposes. In addition to swimming lessons and exercise classes, members used the pool to take classes in all kinds of water sports. With so much going on, the noise in the pool area could sometimes be deafening, making it hard for swimmers, instructors and lifeguards to hear each other.

Knowing that the noise level at the pool was not only annoying but dangerous, YMCA staff decided to find a new acoustical solution. The existing panels would have to go since they were deteriorating after years of exposure to humidity and chlorine. After considering their options, they chose illbruck's SONEXvalueline™ Panels.

"Echo is definitely a potential danger for aquatics instructors and lifeguards," says Heather Husted, assistant aquatic director at Valley Shore YMCA. "Exuberant children can't always hear the lifeguard. SONEXvalueline Panels definitely make it easier for lifeguards and instructors to communicate with swimmers. And that results in a safer pool environment."

Because of a vaulted ceiling over the pool, Valley Shore YMCA installed the panels near the end walls. They were pleased to see that the attractive, convoluted pattern of SONEXvalueline added to the pool décor.

SONEX Panels, made from Class 1 fire-rated willtec foam, meet the ASTM E-84 requirements for flame spread and smoke density, the ASTM G21 standards for fungus resistance, the UL 181 requirements for microbial growth, and the UL1715 room fire exposure test. SONEXvalueline Panels have a softly sculpted pattern and are available painted to complement any interior space. SONEX Panels are easy to install with AcouSTIC™ foam adhesive or mechanical fasteners.
